problem
Everyday payments are often more fragmented and complicated than they should be. Users switch between bank accounts, payment methods, loyalty programmes, and separate apps, creating friction in moments that should feel simple and immediate.
solution
PAYAP was designed to bring payments, account connectivity, and rewards into one streamlined experience. By simplifying how users pay and interact with their money, it creates a faster, more connected, and more intuitive payment journey.
Payap isn’t trying to be “another payments app.” It’s built around modern, everyday payment behaviours—like scanning QR codes, managing multiple linked accounts, and making rewards feel automatic. My focus was making those ideas feel simple, confident, and nice to use through clear hierarchy, strong UI patterns, and punchy visual storytelling.

PAYAP is a payments product built around the emerging landscape of open banking in New Zealand. The core challenge was turning a technically complex and constrained payment method into an experience that felt simple, smooth, and trustworthy for users. As the product evolved, broader business dependencies, including merchant growth, pushed the experience in a more social direction, creating new opportunities to drive engagement and give users value beyond just payments.
The result was an experience that worked to humanise a technically complex system. By designing around the constraints of open banking and layering in stronger engagement mechanics, Payap became more than just a way to pay. It became a product that aimed to make payments feel easier, more rewarding, and more connected to everyday use.
